CHIS Improving Immunisation Uptake (IIU) Team
About the Team
The IIU team are a specialist enhanced service that has supported hundreds of practices to achieve meaningful improvement to their vaccination uptake rates, working as part of Child Health Information Service (CHIS), the team utilises CHIS data and collaborates directly with primary care colleagues and other key stakeholders.
Our primary focus is to support in increasing immunisation uptake rates and decrease the number of children 0-5 years who are unimmunised.
Our mission statement is to boost overall immunisation uptake, reduce health inequalities and promote health protection for the youngest in our communities.
The IIU team consists of a team of clinicians with backgrounds in nursing and health visiting and administrators with skills in data cleansing and analysis, this unique blend of skills means the team is well positioned to work closely with healthcare professionals and primary care staff to support sustained improvements in immunisation uptake rates.

What can we offer?
The IIU team offers two types of support, an intensive support package, especially designed for practices who would benefit from a structured and tailored package of support to address unique immunisation and vaccination challenges. Alongside our ‘light-touch’ support which consists of access to a range of resources to help embed best practice processes and tools to help improve childhood immunisation uptake rates.
Both packages of support provides resources for healthcare professionals and administrators working in healthcare settings where childhood immunisations are offered.
Core features of our intensive support includes:
- A focused package of support, carefully structured to deliver meaningful improvements within a set timeframe.
- Direct, intensive support, providing hands on guidance and resources tailored to enhance your practice’s performance and outcomes.
- In depth support, progress is reviewed regularly to monitor progress and achievements, help identify and resolve data discrepancies and address emerging challenges.

A bespoke Improving Immunisation Uptake service model is co-designed with the commissioners of each NHSE region to meet the specific needs of the communities we serve.

What can we provide?
The IIU team identifies underserved communities and reduces health inequalities. Our services are tailored to meet individual practice needs by doing the following:
- Utilise primary care data to identify practices and offer support
- Provide direct support and facilitate whole practice approach
- Data cleansing – share data with practices and commissioners, escalate concerns
- Review/develop processes – action planning and monitoring
- Provide practices with monthly update trackers and reports
- Utilise CHIS data to work in partnership with practices to review data and immunisation processes
